A Day at the Lake

Last Thursday we headed out to Canyon Lake to give our boat its first test ride of the season. The production of getting to the lake is HUGE and alot of work. So we are always hoping for a successful trip to the lake. After we arrived at the dock, I launched the boat with Mike and the girls inside and went to park the sub and trailer. When I went back to the dock to hook up with them, I saw Mike in the water swimming and pulling the boat to the dock. AAGH! Dead battery. Happens wayyyy too many times that I care to count.

So Mike yelled to me to ask someone to give our battery a jump. The only other boat docking was a smaller fishing boat, so I asked them for help because there were no other options. They were very, very nice and kind and stopped their trip to help out some distressed boaters. Unfortunately, his boat couldn't power up enough to get ours jumpstarted. So told them thank you anyway, and so they could get on their lake trip.

As we told the girls, Life sometimes gives you a dead battery (way too many times to count! ha ha) and you just have to make do and put a smile on your face and make the best of it!

So the girls layed their towels out right there on the dock and we unpacked the sub sandwiches we bought for dinner and ate on the loading dock. The girls were instantly scouting out places they could go swimming.

One interesting thing was that while we were sitting there eating dinner, a boat pulled up and started to unload off the trailer. He saw that we were in need of some assistance and he purposely stayed on the complete opposite side of the dock while he waited for his friend to come back from parking the trailer. Then he only pulled up to the dock for about a half a second, grabbed his friend, and took off. He clearly did not want to help us out and made it known. It was a good chance to point out to the girls that that behavior is not the best and that we should always go out of our way (even if it's inconvenient) and help other people.

We stayed there for about 30 minutes and we were going to pack up and go, but then a boat pulled up and started getting ready to load onto the trailer, so Mike asked for their help and they were more than willing to help out. Come to find out, Mike knew the family and had even gone to school with some of them. Their boat was a ski boat and so we knew we had a better chance of getting the boat started. The boat started right up! Yeah! We were able to get onto the lake and play.

This was Brynlyn's first time to the lake ever and she absolutely loved it! She's a true boater at heart. hee hee

We had a very short amount of time on the lake because of the lake hour in the day, but we were grateful for the time we had and the girls had a great time. But we NEVER turned the engine off for fear of getting stuck again. ha ha
