The Road to Hana ~ Maui ~ March '08

This is about how far we got on the Road to Hana. It had been raining all morning and we decided against tromping the girls all the way to the waterfalls because the water was rushing so much because of the rain. Although I hear the waterfalls were also so fantastic because of the rain. But we are never too wet to eat some yummy food. We stopped at this fruit stand and bought a coconut. They shelled it and then we just ate fresh coconut right out of the shell. Wow, it's so good! We also bought homemade apple banana bread, coconut candy, a fresh fruit smoothie, and these delicious homemade desserts named "the dream bar." It's basically the 7-layer cookie bar or "magic cookie bar" only with madadamia nuts instead of walnuts or pecans. So delicious! We enjoyed sampling the local flavor. The kids even got to try sugar cane. Ashlyn really loved that!

The last two pictures are overlooking the north shore of Maui. These areas are some of the most famous beaches for windsurfing and kite surfing. We stopped and watch the amazing surfers. It was sooooo windy which was why we could see this is the perfect spot for this sport!!! And the view isn't too shabby either...

I once tried to make it all the way to the end of the Road to Hana. But, alas, we gave up too. I wonder how many actualy do make it?
