Mike and the company Landmark were involved in an industry trade show on Friday. It was a "movie theme" so they decided to showcase the movies of Mike Meyers. They did such an awesome job of creating a set with a huge 70's theme. Then they all dressed in character. I'm still trying to figure out where Mike's charater comes into play. He looks absolutely hilarious! And he told me that with the afro and the leopard platform shoes he was wearing, he was peaking at about 7'5..... ha ha
Dave Albrecht and David Payan were perfect as Wayne and Garth from Wayne's World. David Jent looked great as Dr. Evil from Austin Powers and Patrick Callahan won over the crowd as Austin Powers himself. These guys looked great and definitely won "best in show" for the entire tradeshow. They were completely in character and they all had a great time.
The 70's "Austin Powers" themed set!
It all looks GROOVY BABY!!!

August 21st: Canyon Lake trip
We figured that this will be one of the last times that we can go to the lake in a school week, so we'd better take advantage of it. It was so much fun and the weather was starting to cool off a bit when we got there, so when the sun started setting, the weather was great. The water felt so nice and it was great to escape our busy schedules for a little time. We even took Brynlyn on the tube for the first time and she loved it! As soon as the boat stopped, she started telling us that she wanted more ride on the tube! She's a true water girl, just like her sisters. We basically had the lake to ourselves because there were only 5 other boats on the lake. Nice! What a nice way to enjoy the day.

August 16th: Katelyn and David's Baptism Day
Katelyn's baptism day was so special. She looked absolutely beautiful in her baptism dress. And what was extra neat about the day is that her favorite cousin and kindred spirit, David, came over from Peoria and was baptized with her! That was a really neat thing for them because they have always been connected at the hip since birth. Grandma Sugar and Granda both gave great talks at the baptism program, Katelyn's Mom and David's Mom both had a chance to share their thoughts and feelings with their kids, and Grandpa Sugar and Papa gave beautiful prayers. It was a wonderful program and we were lucky to have such a great day. Then we had a big family BBQ at our house following the baptism program. We swam, ate, played WII, played Rock Band and had a great time with our friends and family. This was a day that Katelyn and her family will never forget!

Connie and Jlynn took the kids outside and got these great pictures of them.
This is so cute because it looks like they just got married! Too cute!

August 9th: Katelyn's 8th birthday
Katelyn turned 8 years old today. We celebrated with a small family party by going out to Fuddruckers for dinner, Katelyn's favorite choice. Then, we went home and she opened some presents. She's so into horses right now and so she got a new little plush horse to take care of. And it was a fun surprise when Grandma and Grandpa Sugar showed up to wish Katelyn a happy birthday! What a fun day for her.
Katelyn absolutely makes me laugh. She came home from school and was telling me about something her new teacher said. She was telling the kids that she may not be the "strongest" person, but that she thinks big. So Katelyn said to me, "Mom, do you think big?" ha ha It was too cute. Her teacher is already making a great impression on her.

August 6th: Katelyn's first day of school
Katelyn is starting 2nd grade at Franklin this year also. Her teacher is Ms. Orona and she's going to be such a fantastic teacher this year. I told my children that they all must lead charmed lives because they were so lucky to get such wonderful teachers this year. Katelyn's so ready to start school and she is happy to be able to see her friends also.

Lauryn's 3rd day of school
This was officially Lauryn's 3rd day of school, but she still had to be part of the photo shoot and she looked so cute in her braids! When it's still 110 outside, the best way to go to school is with hair up and out of your face so you can stay as cool as possible in this yucky heat. Lauryn's so enjoying school and looks forward to going every day. And it's really wearing her out, so she's wiped by the end of the day. That makes for a nice and early bedtime, which her parents love! ha ha

August 4th: Lauryn's first day of school
Lauryn is going to 1st grade at our neighborhood school this year so she started school on Monday, August 4th and Ash and Kate get to start school on Wednesday. So they had a lot of fun walking Lauryn over to the school and helping her get adjusted to life back at school. I think they were just thrilled to have 2 more extra days of summer vacation. Lauryn's teacher is Mrs. Dede and we absolutely love her already. Lauryn went into the school last week for an assessment and after she met Mrs. Dede, she said, "Mom, I want to start school tomorrow!" She's going to have such a great year and we're excited for her to have these new adventures in life.

August 3rd: Katelyn's Baptism Dress
I can hardly believe that Katelyn is almost turning 8 and that she's going to be baptized! It was really touching for me to take these pictures of her in her baptism dress. She looks so beautiful and sweet and ready for this next big step in her life. I know that Heavenly Father is so proud of her for the decision she is making to be baptized and so are we! Katelyn, we love you so much and we're so happy that you are in our family. Enjoy and remember this special time in your life.
