We took another way cool water adventure and went whale watching. The winter time is "whale"season in Hawaii. Actually, this is one of the main reasons we decided to come in March because we have only come in the summertime, and we wanted to see the whales. The whales are especially prevalent between the islands of Lanai and Maui during the winter time. They are here to breed. Then, once the mothers have had their babies, they head north to Alaska areas to eat. So about April is when the whales start migrating north. What an amazing thing though to look out among the horizon and see a huge humpback whale emerge. They are magnificent animals. We could only get so close to them, due to the law, but we were close enough to see quite a bit of interraction taking place between them. We found a group of 5 whales. There were 4 male and 1 female. The males were each trying to attract the female's attention. So they started doing nose dives and flipping their fins. Let's put it this way: I'm sure it peaked her interest. It was a spectacular show by these spectacular creatures. We kept waiting for the Sea World trainer to step out! ha ha
The first picture is with our crew member, Gary. He had the most hilarious laugh. He was a great tour guide and knew just where the whales were going to be and what they were going to be. We were calling him "the whale whisperer."
In the second two pictures, the island of Maui is behind us.
In the last picture of the whale doing the front dive, the island of Lanai is in the background. I still can't get over the beauty of this paradise.
